TUTOR

Tan pronto como el esqueje haya crecido hasta 10 cm., o antes si tiene tendencia a torcerse, hay que utilizar un tutor.

Yo utilizo varios tamaños, desde palitos de unos 3 mm de diámetro y 25 cm. de longitud hasta cañas de bambú de 1,5 cm de diámetro y más de 1 m. de longitud.

Los tutores más altos los sujeto siempre a una cadenita firmemente fijada a 20 cm. de una pared. Se trata de standards en formación; cuando las ramas "llenan" los 20 cm y no queda espacio, las plantas se llevan a otra parte.

Los pongo junto a una pared porque no dispongo de otro espacio abierto en el que los pueda tener convenientemente atados.

TUTOR

As soon as the cutting has grown to 10 cm, or earlier if it tends to bend, a tutor has to be used to keep the plant straight.

I use several sizes of tutors. From sticks about 3 mm diameter and 25 cm long to bamboo canes 1.5 cm diameter and over 1 m. length.

With the exception of the shortest ones, the tutors are always tied to a little chain kept at 20 cm. from a wall. The plants are standards being formed. When the branches occupy the 20 cm. and there is not enough space, the plants are carried somewhere else.

I put them by a wall because I have not any other open space where I can keep them conveniently secured.

ATADURAS

Es importante que los tallos tiernos queden bien atados aunque sin dañarlos. Mientras la planta no ramifique, la mejor forma de sujetarlos es con cinta plana de plástico dispuesta como en la figura inferior. Cada cuatro o seis semanas cambio las ataduras de sitio para que no marquen el tallo.

TIES

The stems are to be safely tied without damaging them. While the plant is without branches, the best way to tie it is with flat plastic band, laid as in the following illustration. Every four to six weeks I change the ties so they do not damage the stem.
