A pesar de nuestros cuidados, puede suceder que enferme el único espécimen que teníamos. Si muere perderemos este cultivar y posiblemente sea difícil volver a tener otro igual.

Esta situación es evitable casi siempre. Basta con tomar algún esqueje de la zona que parezca más sana y plantarlo normalmente como se explica en la sección "Esquejes".

Como medida de seguridad para evitar estos casos lo mejor es reproducir, tan pronto como sea posible, las nuevas fuchsias recién llegadas a nuestro jardín. Así será más difícil llegar a la extinción de un cultivar. Otra medida es regalar fuchsias a nuestros amigos. Si las nuestras se extinguen, quizá nuestros amigos puedan devolvernos un esqueje.

Las plantas obtenidas en un garden center suelen estar sometidas a unas condiciones ambientales diferentes de las de nuestro jardín. Ello es la causa de que, a menudo, las plantas compradas "retrocedan". También en este caso obtendremos mejores plantas si tomamos esquejes cuanto antes.

This situation is often avoidable. We may take a cutting from the healthier branches and plant it normally, as explained in the "Cuttings" section.

As a safety measure and to avoid this type of cases, the best is to reproduce the new fuchsias as soon as they arrive into our garden. The extinction of a cultivar will become more difficult in this way. Another measure may be to give away fuchsias to our friends. If ours are extinct, our friends could give us back a cutting.

The plants obtained from a garden center are usually subject to environments differing from our garden. This is the cause why, many times, the purchased plants will "go backwards". Also in this case we will get better plants if we take cuttings of the purchased plants as soon as possible.
